Genk Rounds 7 & 8 ~ 12th/13th/14th/15th August 2010
The meeting went off well although there were numerous visits to the Clerks Room for enquiries over the four days.
The racing was close as it always is and that resulted in attendances before the clerks, but as we have said in the briefings we will investigate any report we receive from the marshals/observers and clerks out on the circuit.
There were a few competitors penalised for infringement of technical regulations including
Alex Gill, Josh Gollin, Ellis Hanks, Samuel O Jones and Lewis Taylor.
Jay Goodwin was penalised for a False Start by 10 seconds being added to his race time.
Oliver Myers was penalised for driving incompatible with general safety. He appealed the decision and having produced fresh video evidence to the Stewards, the appeal was allowed. A number of other competitors were interviewed but no action was taken on those matters other than verbal warnings being given.
Contact driving is not permitted and the Clerks investigated all reports, which also resulted in verbal warnings being given. However at this meeting the driving standards were better than at Glan-Y-Gors.
Of those other drivers given verbal warnings numerous were because they had been reported for overtaking others on the “slowing down lap” after the chequered flag had been shown. Most of the reports stated that the offending driver overtook others still to fast, at “racing speeds”, and the argument the “he was going very slowly and I had to overtake him” will not be accepted in these circumstances. Please note that Regulation Q.17.2 applies in this instance. Stay in line behind each other on the slowing down lap.
We investigated an incident of abusive language and behaviour by Conner Jupp’s father which involved the mother of another competitor. After hearing the matter he was fined £750:00 and banned from the Genk Circuit and all further rounds of the Championship for the rest of 2010. He appealed and the Stewards upheld the fine and ratified the ban from Genk and other circuits but suspended the operation of the ban for 12 months.
Abusive language and violent behaviour will not be tolerated and we would remind you that team members, parents and guardians misbehaviour is the responsibility of the competitor and entrant, who may be penalised separately.
The second incident, of abusive language and assault, involved Oliver Myers who used bad language and also pushed the Start Line Judge of Fact after his kart failed to make the start of his Final. He was fined £750:00 and 3 points were endorsed on his competition licence.
