Plowman Relentlessly Fights Back in Toronto 100

Martin Plowman, driver of the #27 AFS/KEP Print Group for Andretti Autosport car, faced an uphill battle going into this weekend’s Firestone Indy Lights Toronto 100.  Despite posting times in the top three during all of the weekend’s practices, Plowman qualified eighth after getting caught up in traffic at a crucial time during qualifications.

At the green flag, Plowman was pushed wide, costing him two places. Determined, he fought back only to be blocked by Kasemets on laps 3 and 4. In lap 5, Plowman took the inside of Winslow into turn 3 where the two made contact and Plowman lost his front left wing. He headed into the pits and the Andretti  Autosport team quickly fitted him with a new nose to keep him on the lead lap. Back out on the track, Plowman dominated the field, setting consecutive fast laps. He chased down both Barbosa and Jorda, passing both in just two laps. By lap 25 of 50, Plowman had recovered up to tenth place. In lap 35, he passed Pippa Mann for eighth place. Pulling away from Mann, Plowman chased down the leading cars, setting times faster than the leaders. At the checkered flag, Plowman finished seventh, setting the second fastest lap of the race.

MARTIN PLOWMAN: "Considering that was my worst finish of the season, that could have been the best race of my life. We had a bad start and lost two positions. On lap two, Kasemets put a huge mark on me on the inside of turn three and I couldn't get by. The next lap he did the same thing, and I made a mistake and lost the front wing. The guys did an amazing job to change my front wing and keep me less than one lap down. I went out in 15th place and just picked everybody off, one by one. The blocking was just diabolical today. I just want to thank the #27 crew for their hard work. We'll get them in Edmonton."
